At the Walker Art Gallery you can find old and new masterpieces as well as historical exhibitions and collections.
Tate Liverpool boasts contemporary collections and exhibitions for some of the best-known artists. Your student card will gain you free access to exhibitions!
For cutting-edge film, photography and visual arts, visit the Open Eye Gallery and the Bluecoat.
Not to mention, we are also home to the Liverpool Biennial, the largest international contemporary art festival in the UK.
Museums
Among the most exciting is the Museum of Liverpool, a celebration of the city’s many great places, people and events.
Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum are two of Liverpool’s many other museums.
You can also visit the Victoria Gallery and Museum right in the heart of the University campus. The gallery has permanent exhibitions such as ‘Under the Sea’ and ‘Nasty Gnashers and Dreadful Dentures’ as well as varied special exhibitions.
Galleries and museums are generally free entry except for special exhibitions.
Festivals
Find live music at Liverpool Sound City, the Liverpool International Music Festival, Africa Oyé and Creamfields.
Baltic Triangle is also host to an end-of-term festival every June, known as Baltic Weekender.
For a cultural experience, try Brazilica, a festival that celebrates Brazilian arts and culture. Homotopia and Pride in Liverpool are LGBT+ festivals worth celebrating!
The River Festival and Light Night Liverpool are both eye-catching festival installations.
Living on Smithdown? Smithdown Road Festival takes over a number of bars and cafés for a weekend of live music and great food every Spring.
