Overview

Research opportunities in Veterinary Clinical Sciences take place in the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Infection, Veterinary, and Ecological Sciences. IVES was established to bring together leading medical, veterinary and basic science researchers from across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The School of Veterinary Sciences within IVES offers world-leading research opportunities linked to our working farms and state-of-the-art referral hospitals on our Leahust Campus and our new veterinary practice located on the main campus in the vibrant city of Liverpool, as well as with Chester Zoo. IVES is also deeply engaged with the Liverpool-Malawi Wellcome Trust facility in Malawi and is in strategic partnership with the International Livestock Research Institute in Kenya; we have full time academic staff based in both locations in sub-Saharan Africa.

Our work encompasses a diverse but interlinked range of research areas including infectious and non-infectious diseases of animals including surveillance and control of zoonotic diseases, the interaction of human and animal health, veterinary pathology and forensics, and animal health and welfare.

Our multidisciplinary staff, including clinically-qualified veterinary researchers, epidemiologists, social scientists and basic scientists, work together to prevent disease and improve the health and welfare of farmed, companion and working animals as well as wildlife. To facilitate this work, we have excellent research facilities with access to the Liverpool Shared Research Facilities.
