This Scholarship programme, which is jointly overseen by China Scholarship Council (CSC) and the University of Liverpool, was established in early 2010. The University covers all tuition fees and research fees up to £1250 per annum (this will need to appear in your offer letter). Eligibility criteria
In order to be eligible for these awards applicants must:
- Be a Chinese national
- Meet the requirements of the CSC – please see their website
- Have applied for a place to study at the University of Liverpool
- Have completed bachelors or masters degree before the agreed start of PhD study.
How to apply
You will need to have made an application for a place to study for a PhD at the University of Liverpool to be considered for nomination. A nomination will not be made unless the academic department has received all necessary documentation to support an application by the deadline for nominations to China, usually March. It doesn't need to be a conditional offer at this point.
The deadline for applications is Friday 17 January 2025.
Step 1:
Potential applicants should first apply for a University of Liverpool PhD in the normal way. Visit our Applying page for instructions on how to apply. Please state clearly on the PhD application form that you wish to apply for ‘Liverpool CSC scholarship’ funding.
Step 2:
You can apply as soon as you get your student ID (this will be a number beginning '201'). To apply, please complete the CSC application form (54.7KB, DOCX) and send that along with an academic CV and a 500 word research proposal, outlining your plans to the address on the form. Please do not apply if you do not have the student ID.
Step 3:
We aim to notify applicants by email as soon as possible after the closing date to confirm the outcome of the application and nomination to CSC. We will also notify the China Scholarship Council of the outcome. Applicants should then submit an application to the China Scholarship Council before their deadline.
Please note that the University will not issue a letter offering a tuition fee award only. We will issue a letter if and once you are awarded the entire scholarship.
For further information about applying for the scholarship, please contact scholarships@liverpool.ac.uk. For information about admission to your chosen course, please contact the relevant academic department.
This tuition fee funding is for 4 years, should you change your registration to submission pending, you will become liable for that fee.
