Funding for students with disabilities
The Disabled Students' Allowance is a grant to help eligible disabled students cover additional study costs that arise as a direct result of a disability.
Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)
- If you have a disability, medical condition, mental health problem or learning difficulty, you may be eligible for additional financial support
- The type of support and how much you might receive depends on your individual needs. It might include help with the cost of specialist equipment, such as computer software, extra travel costs due to a disability, or other support necessary to study on your programme.
- DSA is not means tested and is non-repayable.
You’ll need to be eligible for financial support from Student Finance England (or equivalent UK funding body) to apply.
You’ll also find extensive information about our range of support for disabled students on our Student Services pages.
How to apply
Applications are made online to Student Finance England. As part of your application, you must provide written evidence confirming the nature and impact of your disability.
We recommend that you apply for this funding as soon as possible, rather than waiting until you have confirmed your place with us.
If your application is accepted, you’ll be asked to attend a Study Needs Assessment with an approved, independent assessor. They’ll work with you to identify barriers to learning and make recommendations for support.
