Why commute to university?
For most people, applying to university means committing to moving to a new city or living on campus. But we appreciate that might not be the best option for everyone. If you live locally, don’t want to live on campus or feel like it’s not an option for you, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the full experience. For some people, commuting to university can be the best option.
Every year, we welcome many new students who live in Liverpool, or further afield, and commute to Liverpool to study. Find out if commuting could be the right option for you.
What is a local or commuter student?
In simple terms, a local or commuter student is anyone who chooses to live off campus and travel to the University for their studies. Generally speaking:
- A local student is someone who already lives in the Liverpool City Region. Many local students will be people who were brought up in the city and still live here with their family.
- A commuting student is generally someone who chooses not to live in Liverpool or on campus but instead wants to travel here from elsewhere.
Why commute to university?
Some of the reasons people choose to live off campus include:
- Saving on housing costs
- Being closer to friends and family
- Saving money
- Existing work commitments
- More time to commit to family
- The chance to study without having to leave an existing role
- Being able to study without a big life change.
Whatever your reason for living off campus, we can accommodate your needs. Liverpool is a great, well-connected city for commuters. And our campus facilities mean there are more than enough opportunities for you to stay involved in student life and enjoy your time here.
