Attending timetables activities will also make it easier for you to become part of our vibrant learning community of staff and students, enabling you to take advantage of the wide range of academic support and other resources and activities available at the University.
Our Student Attendance Policy (PDF, 235KB) sets out how we want to use attendance data to help ensure you receive the right support whenever you need it.
Should we have a concern about your attendance, we will contact you to find out what is happening and help you get back on track. Depending on what you tell us, we may refer you for additional support and guidance.
We also need an accurate record of your attendance in order to meet:
- Student Finance requirements and verify your eligibility for student loans during the academic year (if you receive these)
- Our obligations under the Data Protection Act to hold accurate data on student registration
- UKVI Home Office requirements and to continue to be able to sponsor your student visa (if you have one)
That’s why it is really important that you complete the student registration process for all of your timetabled sessions, both on-campus in-person activities as well as online sessions, delivered via MS Teams or Zoom.
Students on the majority of our undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes will be able to register their attendance via the browser and mobile app versions of the University timetables.
Do not share an attendance code with students who haven’t attended a particular session. Falsifying attendance records will stop us from being able to identify which students may need additional support in their studies and it may constitute misconduct.
For further information, please read the policy on student conduct and discipline.
What to do if you can't attend University
We understand there may be occasions when you cannot attend the University and you will be able to let us know when and why by completing a short form. This will enable us to update your attendance information where appropriate and make sure you receive the relevant support and guidance.
