Golf
Welcome to the University of Liverpool Golf club
The University of Liverpool has had access to play its fixtures at Royal Liverpool Golf Club (host to the 2014 & 2023 Open Championships) since 1964. With our teams being based at this prestigious course it is not difficult to see why many talented golfers are drawn to the University of Liverpool.
Competitive
Our mixed (male and female) team matches involve the strongest 6 available players on the day, the squad is now 25 members including scholars as we now offer a second team for players above a six handicap. Matches are Wednesday afternoons and training takes place on Monday evenings at the local Liverpool driving range.
Players that have represented at county level or handicaps below three should contact us and apply for a scholarship. We are currently looking at courses to host players with handicaps that do not make the squad in order to set up a golfing society.
We compete in British Universities and Colleges Sports(BUCS) leagues and knock-out cup matches. There is also the opportunity for players off 4 and below to compete in individual BUCS events at top courses such as Woodhall Spa. These events count towards an order of merit competition to play in the British University Championship, which is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) qualifying event. All BUCS events, individual and matches; are scratch matchplay or gross scores.
Social sport
We host our own competitions such as University scratch trophy and alumni competitions.
Cost
The cost of the Royal Liverpool membership, coaching, competitions and kit changes each year depending on sponsorship. For squad players this year the fee was £150. Most players certainly get their money's worth considering a single round at Royal Liverpool will cost you more than that as a non-member.
