Men's football
Welcome to the University of Liverpool Football club
There are plenty of opportunities to play football whilst you are at University. Male, female, indoor or outdoor on grass or on Astroturf; we have a wide selection to suit your needs.
We are pleased to be an FA grassroots hub that provides us with all of the above opportunities.
Competitive
We have 4 teams competing on Wednesdays in the BUCS leagues. Our 4 teams are in 1A, 4C, 4C and 5A and compete against other Northwest universities. Our aim is to gain promotion for both the first and second teams this season moving them respectively into the premier and 3rd divisions.
The first and second teams also take part in two events throughout the academic year. The first is ‘Varsity’ an event in which we take on the other half of the city LJMU in all sports. The second and larger of the two is The Christie Championship, a tournament played between ourselves, Leeds and Manchester. Our university finally won this in 17/18, after 27 years of waiting.
Social sport
We also provide a large internal campus football programme with 11 a side and 6 a side leagues. Represent your department, halls of residence or make a team with your friends. Visit the campus football section for more info.
Both students and staff can participate in Campus Football. We offer both men’s and women’s programmes as well as the opportunity to get involved with refereeing and coaching. If you would like to enter a team into any of the campus leagues below, please get in touch.
The Campus leagues for 2022/23 are now full.
Men’s 11 a side league
The men’s football programme takes place on a Wednesday and Sunday, comprising of 50 teams in total - three leagues on a Sunday and two leagues on a Wednesday. Matches are played weekly throughout the winter and spring term, finishing with an awards evening. In addition to the league, we also run an FA cup style competition throughout the season.
All campus teams must provide two qualified referees. If you do not have any or only have one qualified referee then one or two member(s) from your team must attend one of the referee courses. All courses will be held at Wyncote Sports Grounds.
Men's 6 a side league
The 6-a-side league takes place every Friday night 5-9:30pm on the 3G and astroturf pitches at Wyncote. Last year there were 30 teams playing over two leagues. The 6-a-side leagues are great fun and competitive at the same time. It's a great night to get together with your mates and have a kick about.
