Biography
Jack obtained his BA in Sociology at Liverpool John Moores University and his Masters of Research in Social Research at the University of Liverpool. He began his postgraduate research in October 2024 through funding from the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership.
Research
Jack’s research interests include systems of social control, power, and the discourses which accompany and shape the application of power over people and their actions and behaviours. His PhD research project seeks to develop understandings of the border apparatus as a complex and multifaceted system of social control which operates in seemingly disparate ways towards different social groups while reproducing racialised categorisations and hierarchisations of people. In doing this research, he aims to elucidate the role of emerging discourses and political movements in attempts to redefine social understandings of borders and how they function in practice.
