School of Law and Social Justice’s Professor Fiona Measham, Chair in Criminology, and Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas, Professor of European and Global Law, have been named among the world's top researchers in the prestigious Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientist Rankings.

Professor Shadd Maruna, Head of the Department of Sociology, Social Policy, and Criminology, was also mentioned under his previous institution, Queen's University Belfast. Professor Maruna joined the School of Law and Social Justice in 2024.

The rankings, a publicly accessible database, highlight the most highly cited scientists globally, offering insight into their research impact. The list includes 309 academics from the University of Liverpool, showcasing the institution's broad contributions to various fields.

Based on 2022 citation data, the list—updated through the end of 2023—uses a variety of metrics, including the h-index, adjustments for co-authorship, and a composite citation score (c-score) to assess influence beyond publication count. Scientists are ranked using Scopus  data, with the top 100,000 or the top 2% within each field featured.

This recognition emphasises the School of Law and Social Justice's commitment to cutting-edge research and affirms its position as a global leader in law and social justice. It also reflects the exceptional talent and dedication of our research community.
