University of Liverpool spin-out, Atomik AM, has secured £125k in investment from LYVA Labs.
Based in the University’s School of Engineering, Atomik AM launched last year to provide innovative engineering solutions for the advanced manufacturing sector.
Having developed a number of techniques and binders that improve the process of binder jetting, the company plans to use the LYVA Labs investment to accelerate product commercialisation by enabling the team to convert pipeline opportunities into commercial contracts.
The funding will also help the business to develop new intellectual property (IP), file a new patent, secure eight jobs, and create a new role: chief operating officer. Atomik AM’s track record includes successful collaborations with blue-chip companies, the filing of multiple patents, and a robust pipeline of innovative IP poised to transform the sector.
Professor Kate Black FREng, Founder and CEO of Atomik AM , has proven expertise and leadership in the additive manufacturing sector, having previously founded and successfully exited a company.
She said: “This investment is a testament to the groundbreaking work our team is doing to advance additive manufacturing processes. It allows us to expand our capabilities, accelerate innovation, and bring sustainable, cutting-edge solutions to the industry. At Atomik AM, we believe in driving change in manufacturing to create a better future for everyone.”
LYVA Labs’ Head of Investments, Akshay Bhatnagar, added: “We hope this will be the first of many investments alongside the University of Liverpool, Atomik AM exemplifies the excellence found in advanced manufacturing R&D across Liverpool City Region, and we are pleased to be part of this business’ exciting innovation journey.”
Emma Nolan, Head of Enterprise Team at the University of Liverpool, said: "Atomik AM is a prime example of how University’s research excellence can be translated into commercial applications with economic impact. We are proud to have supported this University spin-out as one of its first investors, early in its journey. This is an example of our commitment to help create a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem and a cluster of high-growth companies across the Liverpool City Region (LCR) and beyond."
The formation and ongoing development of this spin-out are facilitated by the University of Liverpool’s Enterprise Team, with significant investment secured for the company from the University’s Enterprise Investment Fund.
