Nikki’s career started in 2000 when she began her training to become a veterinary nurse at a mixed practice in Solihull. After successfully gaining her nursing qualification, and locuming to gain experience at a variety of practices, she worked at the Veterinary Cardiorespiratory Centre in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, where her interest in cardiology was nurtured. She has since held a position at PetMedics in Manchester, combining general nursing duties whilst also being a dedicated Cardiology Nurse. Nikki joined the Small Animal Teaching Hospital as the Cardiology Nurse in 2012, and is once again enjoying concentrating on cardiorespiratory veterinary medicine, whilst also working in a teaching and research environment.
Clinical Interests
- Advising owners on adapting to having an animal with heart disease
- Congenital heart disease and recovery through surgical intervention
Teaching Responsibilities
Nikki is responsible for supervising the veterinary students whilst on their cardiology rotations, this ranges from teaching basic handling skills and drug calculations, through to how to perform cardiology diagnostic procedures such as blood pressures, x-rays and electrocardiograms (ECGs).
