Dr Jane Rees
Head of Strategic Research Initiatives and Co-Head of Research & Partnerships Department
Jane’s role
Jane is a member of the Thrive Project Board. In her role she will support the Thrive project team members to maximise synergies and learning about team approaches to research. Jane also offers nearly two decades of experience of success and the pitfalls to avoid when developing research teams and complex research bids as this ambitious project develops.
About Jane
Jane has worked at the University of Liverpool in various roles since 2006, growing a team which supports the development of research from concept through to research bid, often collaborating with teams of researchers and external partners as a key part of the process. Increasingly, the teams work has focussed on creating resources and a supportive research environment, including an internal peer review college, bespoke support for interdisciplinary and international research, and development of cohort approaches of bid support.
Jane studied for both her bachelors in Zoology and her D. Phil on the evolution of insect immune systems at the University of Oxford. The latter allowed her a taste of field work in Kenya. She then moved from academia to science publishing, working as a Senior Editor covering various fields of Biological Sciences for the journal Nature in London for over a decade. There is no better training on how to communicate research!
In her spare time, Jane is a mum to three young adults, and is happiest when travelling with a backpack or walking in some inspiring countryside.
