UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships: Round 10

Fellowships aim to facilitate research independence - some promote international mobility, some help people train or transition into a new area, and some support people returning to work after a career break or working part-time

Please note – We are releasing timelines and a brief outline of the internal process based on UKRI’s pre-announcement to allow applicants to begin planning their prospective applications. This page will be updated with further guidance and application template documents from January 2025.

The University of Liverpool welcomes applications from eligible candidates with a strong strategic alignment to the institution and host department

If you are interested in applying for an FLF award to be hosted at the University of Liverpool:

  1. Read the information about eligibility in the UKRI FLF scheme guidance (and see key eligibility criteria below),
  2. Complete the University of Liverpool FLF Self-Assessment template (see below),
  3. Contact the Head of Department in your proposed host department as soon as possible to discuss your application plans and fit with the institution - use the self-assessment template to guide the discussion. All applicants (internal and external) must gain permission from their HoD before applying to our internal process. Please see faculty-specific fellowship information and contacts:

Wednesday 19 February, 16:00 GMT

University of Liverpool Internal ‘Intention to Submit’ deadline (compulsory)

Applicants to complete and submit an online  UKRI FLF Round 10 Intention to Submit form (Microsoft Form)

The form includes questions about project details (compulsory) and diversity monitoring (optional). 

Please note – this stage will not be assessed by the internal selection panel. After submission of their ITS external applicants will receive a recording of the University of Liverpool FLF webinar.

Before internal application deadline (13 March 2025)

Complete the University of Liverpool FLF Self-Assessment template and discuss with their selected HoD to confirm that they meet the criteria of the scheme, and that the proposed research project is strategically aligned with the Host department.

This short form will consist of a series of questions designed to encourage applicants to self-reflect on their eligibility.  HoDs will be asked to confirm that they have discussed the FLF Self-Assessment with applicants prior to the internal application deadline (see steps below)

1. Applicants to submit the following to peerrev@liverpool.ac.uk:

Internal Application proforma. This document is a shorter version of the real Funding Service form. Please request that your prospective mentor and/or HoD send you the UoL application form. They will be able to access it from the UoL intranet page. Do let us know if you are having challenges with this

The internal application is likely to include shortened versions of the following sections:

  • Summary
  • Vision and Approach
  • Applicant Capability to Deliver (Resume for Research and Innovation)
  • Career Development
  • Ethics & Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI)

2. Host Heads of Department to submit HoD support statement to confirm they have met with the applicant to review the applicant self-assessment document and confirm their support for the candidate’s application by this deadline

Please note - it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the head of their proposed host department submits confirmation by the deadline. We therefore suggest that applicants meet with the head of their proposed host department well in advance of the deadline to ensure ample time is given for submission of the form.
