Targeted research funding
A broad scope of targeted research funding opportunities are available at the University of Liverpool giving academics the chance to test early ideas, explore partnerships and establish networks.
Designated funds allow academics to develop proof of concepts and begin successful research projects. Pump priming funds can help researchers forge the connections needed to further more ambitious projects, whilst other schemes are designed to support those who have had career breaks or are at the early stages of a research career.
Case study
In 2016, Professor Matthew Bayliss, was awarded £3,000 through the International Network Fund. This funding enabled Matthew to build a network of partners and a concept for what led to the £8.8m, GCRF-funded capacity building project, One Health Regional Network for the Horn of Africa (HORN), a partnership of the University of Liverpool with LSTM, ILRI, and national institutions of research and teaching in Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somaliland.
