Peer support
Research proposals benefit from a supportive environment within the University of Liverpool, where fellow academics and expert professional services colleagues work together to provide feedback and advice to those publishing their work, applying for grants and increasing the impact of their research.
Recognising the support required for academics to succeed in a highly competitive funding process, we have established a dedicated Peer Review College. Mock interviews and interdisciplinary panels ensure that academics are fully prepared for each stage of the process.
Case study
Since peer review support began in 2014, we increased the success rate for ERC Fellowships from 7.5% to 16%, with eight new ERC awards totalling £10.7M.
By engaging with and contributing to the peer review process, researchers will improve the quality of their applications, collaborate with colleagues across the University, and develop grant writing and reviewing skills.
Thriving research community
At Liverpool we have a thriving research community where researchers at all career levels showcase, share and debate their ideas. Our research-informed, inquiry-based curriculum for undergraduate students means that they are also involved, exposed to and benefiting from our dynamic research environment.
Conferences, symposiums, workshops and other tailored events provide discussion around a particular research challenge, giving our students and researchers a platform to inform the wider debate, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
Dedicated programs of events for researchers’ development such as ‘Making an Impact Week’ are specifically designed to help academics develop the skills and networks within and outside the University so that they can maximise the impact of their research.
