Open access

The University is committed to making as much of its research output available on an open access basis as possible.

Our policy is that all journal articles and conference proceedings authored by university staff should be available from the University Repository. Where they can be made available on an open access basis, other types of output can also be found there.

The University further supports open access publishing through the use of three dedicated funds, from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Charity Open Access Fund, and its own funds.

Open access to the outputs of research is an important enabler of the advancement of knowledge, helping research reach a wider audience and therefore broaden its potential citation and impact.

Further information on the University’s support can be found on the Open Access website.

Research Data Management

Research data is crucial evidence in support of research findings, and is a valuable resource for its creators and others.

The University Library’s Research Data Management Team provides advice and services to our researchers to ensure projects benefit from sound data management planning, that funder and publisher requirements on the discoverability and usability of research data are met, and that where possible the data outputs of our work are made available to the wider research community.

Where no other appropriate online repositories exist, our researchers can make data available through the University’s Data Catalogue, which provides Digital Object Identifiers to datasets to ensure maximum citation opportunity.
