Professor Sara Cohen elected British Academy Fellow

The University of Liverpool’s Professor Sara Cohen, James and Constance Alsop Chair in our Department of Music, has been elected one of 86 fellows to the British Academy in 2024.

Professor Cohen joins a cohort of the very best academics elected from the field of humanities and social science research, both across the UK and globally.

Of the 86 new fellows elected in 2024, 52 were from institutions across the UK.

On hearing of her award, Professor Cohen said: “It is an honour and a privilege to have been elected a Fellow of the British Academy and I’m extremely grateful.

“I very much look forward to helping to champion the important work of the Academy across the arts, humanities and social sciences.”

Founded in 1902, the British Academy is a Fellowship consisting of over 1700 of the leading minds in humanities and social sciences subjects from the UK and overseas. Current Fellows include the classicist Professor Dame Mary Beard, the historian Professor Sir Simon Schama and philosopher Professor Baroness Onora O’Neill, while previous Fellows include Dame Frances Yates, Sir Winston Churchill, Seamus Heaney and Beatrice Webb.

The Academy is also a funder of both national and international research, as well as a forum for debate and public engagement.
