Interdisciplinary Centre for Sustainability Research (ICSR)

The ICSR, established in 2024, will act as a nexus for interdisciplinary research and impact at Liverpool. It will bring together researchers with different types of knowledge, experience and skills from across the University, as well as engaging with national and international experts.

The Centre's mission is to support teams of researchers who can collectively tackle the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We will periodically focus on specific thematic SDGs. This will require innovative collaboration to identify tractable research opportunities.

ISCR's initial focus will be on climate-related SDGs, spanning several of the goals that cover this issue. The University of Liverpool's work in digital solutions and innovation will be fundamental in supporting a range of interdisciplinary research.

Our ultimate goal is to ensure that:

  • We can convene interdisciplinary teams to tackle projects requiring integrative expertise
  • Secure external funding for ambitious large-scale projects
  • Co-create projects with external partners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrate tangible impact that progress solutions on the UN SDGs.

If you would like to collaborate with us or discuss our work, please contact Professor Katie Atkinson, Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Sustainability Research, and Helen Bryant, Centre Manager, at icsr@liverpool.ac.uk.
