Liverpool Magnetic Resonance Imaging Centre (LiMRIC)

The Liverpool Magnetic Resonance Imaging Centre (LiMRIC) offers researchers the necessary infrastructure and expertise for human research.

The Facility’s equipment and resources are supported by experienced research radiographers to help you get the best quality data.

What you'll receive from our facility

  • LiMRiC maintains the highest ethical, clinical governance and safety standards. We have established processes for handling ‘incidental findings’ in healthy subjects
  • Our main instrument is a Siemens Prisma 3T scanner. Techniques available include a wide range of structural MRI, fMRI, and 1H and 31P MRS
  • Our facility staff are available to share their expertise in a range of MRI techniques and their experience in supporting MRI research studies in healthy subjects and patients, and in anatomical samples
  • We are also able to offer support in: study design; method selection and optimisation, data management planning, costings,  safety aspects; data acquisition
  • Training is available 1-to-1 hands-on at our facility.

Who can use our facilities

  • University of Liverpool academic staff and research students
  • Researchers from other universities
  • Industrial research partners.

What can magnetic resonance imaging methods do

LiMRIC supports a wide range of research, currently including these main areas:

  • Measurements of liver fat and body adipose tissue
  • Assessments of organ damage (e.g. heart, spleen, kidney, liver, pancreas)
  • Neuroimaging studies of pain and appetite, cognition, brain structure, function  and connectivity in heath and disease
  • Quantitative cardiac imaging
  • Anatomical and functional musculoskeletal imaging.

This is not an exhaustive list. Please get in touch to discuss the possibilities.
