Momentum is a self-shielded pre-clinical MPI imager. The Momentum scanner allows high resolution imaging of super paramagnetic iron oxide particles.
The imaging system utilizes a high-field gradient main magnet and proprietary x-space image reconstruction to produce the world’s highest sensitivity and resolution MPI images.
Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) is a new imaging modality which is the focus of active research and development. Our new MPI scanner is the first of its kind in the UK.
It enables characterization and imaging of novel super paramagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) particles. SPIO has long been used as a contrast agent in MRI where it produces black spots in images. With MPI, SPIO particles give bright signal from the particles, which can then be overlayed onto an anatomical image from either our MRI or µCT scanners.
The MPI scanner can acquire high resolution 2D or 3D images as well as measure the physical properties of novel SPIO tracers. The scanner is designed for phantom and in vivo mouse imaging.
