Computer Science at the University of Liverpool is home to world-class experts who conduct ground-breaking research in the following areas:
- Algorithms and Networks
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Economics and Computation
- Logical Methods in Computer Science.
We develop algorithms that are used by hundreds of thousands of programmers worldwide every day, we design tools that explain and verify the behaviour of many AI systems, and we develop fair voting systems that have been used in many elections.
We are also interdisciplinary. We collaborate with chemists from our £81 million Materials Innovation Factory to discover and design new advanced materials, that will unlock new forms of energy use and storage, and create novel, recyclable and sustainable products. We also work with researchers in our new £12.7 million Digital Innovation Facility to develop next generation robotics applications, to fully exploit the power of digital technologies and expertise.
We aim to apply our research for the benefit of the economy and society, in the Liverpool City Region, nationally, and across the world. We collaborate with a wide range of non-academic partners: to deploy AI techniques in the legal sector, to create AI-inspired art-installations exhibited at Tate Liverpool, and in the Netherlands, Germany, and Japan, and to drive forward health and environmentally-friendly transport policy using geodemographic classifications.
