Background

Ricardo Torres obtained a PhD in Physics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2003 with a study on UV laser ablation of surfaces. He then moved to the Physics Department of Imperial College London for six years, where he did theoretical and experimental research on strong laser field interactions with molecules and ultrafast molecular imaging.

In 2010 he moved to Centro de Láseres Pulsados in Salamanca, Spain, where he became head of the scientific division and taught some courses for the Master of Laser Physics at the University of Salamanca. In Salamanca he started a line of research on laser-driven ion acceleration in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde.

Ricardo joined the QUASAR Group in February 2015 as project manager for the oPAC network. Since then, he has served as scientific communications officer for the EuPRAXIA and EuroCirCol projects and has organised numerous outreach projects and events on accelerator science for school children, where he has always applied a creative approach. His work has helped to raise the profile of accelerator projects, boosting their international impact among the authorities, scientific community, industry and the general public.

During his career, Ricardo has developed an expertise in research and training, scientific communications, and innovative outreach. Currently he manages the project OMA as well as AWAKE-UK. He is in charge of outreach and liaison of EuPRAXIA and he co-leads the Communications Team of the Cockcroft Institute.
