Cockcroft 120 Challenge – and the winner is…
Earlier in the year we announced the Cockcroft 120 Challenge – a science communication competition to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Sir John Cockcroft.
We asked schools to conduct their own high voltage experiment and to create a video of up to 30 seconds in length that demonstrates a high voltage experiment and offers some explanation of the physics involved.
The judges were delighted by the originality and quality of the videos that were received from around the world. There were fantastic demonstrations involving capacitors, Van de Graff generators, Lichtenberg figures, tesla coils and more…It was a tough competition, but we offer special congratulations to students from Southmoor Academy and RSA Academy who won Wimshurst machines for their school.
