On the Way to Micro-accelerators
Optical scale dielectric structures are promising candidates to realize very compact and possibly low cost particle accelerators. They can sustain high acceleration gradients in the range of GeV/m and hencemany orders of magnitude above what can be realized in conventional radiofrequency accelerators.
In a paper that was recently published in Physics of Plasmas, we present detailed results from numerical investigations QUASAR Aimierding Aimidula has carried our into dielectric asymmetric dual-grating accelerators. This work might open up new avenues for chip-size accelerators for a wide range of applications.
