Dr Shakti Prasad Sethi, an accomplished researcher in engineering sciences, has recently joined the QUASAR Group at the University of Liverpool as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate.

Dr Sethi brings a lot of academic and research experience to his new role. He obtained his Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) degree in electronics and communication engineering from the Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha, India, in 2013. During his undergraduate studies, his project focused on the demonstration of visible light communication (VLC) for transmitting audio signals using light emitting diodes (LEDs).

Building upon his undergraduate success, he pursued a Master of Technology (M-Tech) degree in communication system engineering from the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, formerly UCE Burla, Odisha, India, graduating in 2017. His master's research focused on the perturbation study of elliptical and hyperbolic patch antennas for the c and x band frequency range.

After qualifying CSIR-NET-JRF in Physics, in February 2018, he joined as a CSIR-Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Process Engineering and Instrumentation department, CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar, India, and subsequently enrolled in the PhD program of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Ghaziabad, India.

In 2023, Dr Sethi was awarded his PhD degree in Engineering Sciences, focusing on the Development of Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis Techniques for Plasma Processes. His doctoral research showcased expertise in non-invasive diagnostics of plasma processes through instrumentation, optical emission spectroscopy, signal processing, machine learning, and deep learning techniques.

Following the completion of his doctoral studies, he ventured into academia as an assistant professor in the electronics and communication department at Chandigarh University, Mohali, India, before transitioning to his current role.

As a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Liverpool's QUASAR Group, Dr Sethi is currently involved in simulation and experimental studies of gas jet monitoring and beam gas curtain analysis in collaboration with HL-LHC. He also investigates medical applications of this technology.
