More than 450 participants in the Future Circular Collider (FCC) Study met last week in Amsterdam for its annual collaboration week.

Ricardo Torres attended the FCC Week 2018 as a member of the communication group. He launched a new promotional poster presenting the potential of the FCC to discover new physics and held discussions with his CERN colleagues to prepare next year’s FCC symposium in Liverpool.

The conference started with a plenary talk about the physics opportunities at FCC. The coordinator of the study Michael Benedikt and the leaders of the different work packages then gave an overview of the status of various aspects of the project, covering the definition of baseline parameters, layout, operational model, magnet design and technology, vacuum and cryogenics, civil engineering, etc.

The following days were dedicated to detailed discussions on these topics, distributed in parallel sessions as well as a poster session. The conclusions from each topic were presented on the last day.

The collaboration is now moving to prepare the FCC Conceptual Design Report, including a cost estimate for all the collider options, to be delivered by the end of this year. The 2018 collaboration meeting has contributed to consolidate the vision for future energy and intensity-frontier colliders that could replace the LHC by the end of the 2030s.
