V-FAST rapid screen tool (PAVE study; Paramedic Vision Evaluation)

The V-FAST tool has been developed by the VISION Research Unit, University of Liverpool in collaboration with the North West Ambulance Service.

The purpose of the V-FAST tool is to screen for visual impairment during paramedic call-outs to suspected stroke. It is NOT a diagnostic tool but serves to screen for visual impairment, particularly in suspected FAST negative strokes, and thus highlighting potential need for specialist visual assessment.

Note: V-FAST was NOT developed or validated as a standardised vision screening tool for acute stroke unit or community stroke settings. It’s use is targeted at pre-hospital and/or A&E admission settings.

We recommend our VISA tool which is a validated, standardised vision screening tool for acute stroke unit or community stroke settings.
