The Institute of Population Health was recently awarded an Athena SWAN Silver award by Advance HE.
The Silver award, announced on 24 November, acknowledges the Institute’s continued efforts to embed Equality, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) across its culture. This achievement follows extensive data collection, analysis, and the development of a comprehensive 5-year action plan focused on four key areas:
• Advancing career progression for women into senior academic and leadership roles.
• Enhancing outreach, widening participation, and improving recruitment practices to attract diverse talent.
• Improving wellbeing and addressing bullying and harassment within the workplace.
• Strengthening data collection and engagement to monitor and drive future improvements.
The extensive application process was managed by the 20 strong Self-Assessment Team, including representatives from across the Institute, its departments and schools. The award is not only recognition of Institute’s commitment to gender equality in an operational capacity, but also indicative of the dedication our team members have to achieving that goal.
