Last week staff and students from across the Institute of Population Health gathered for the annual Institute Away Day. Held in the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, the event was a unique opportunity to share ideas and learn more about the Institute’s teaching and research strategy.
Executive Dean Professor Sally Sheard provided a warm welcome to the day and outlined the year’s successes, which included an increase in PGR recruitment, grant success, and the launch of new teaching facilities. Professor Sheard also discussed the upcoming challenges facing both the Institute and the University as a whole.
IT Services delivered an eye-opening session on cyber security and the ways in which we can ensure that our own safety, and that of the University, is maintained. Other talks focused on student support and optimising efficiency. These were followed by an interactive Q and A session, in which attendees provided anonymous feedback to the Senior Leadership Team, as well as asking questions of their own.
The highlight of the day was the annual Institute Awards, which celebrated the achievements of staff and students throughout the last year and acknowledged those who have gone above and beyond in their work.
The day concluded with a series of workshops that focused on professional and personal skills. Attendees heard presentations from team leaders and took part in discussions on topics such as wellbeing and team building.
