A team of students from the Department of Psychology won first prize at the Young Enterprise Regional Final 2025.
The Young Enterprise Regional Final, which took place at the Eleanor Rathbone Building, University of Liverpool on Wednesday 26 February, saw 11 teams from universities across the north-west compete at the event and showcase their businesses.
Students had previously set up businesses as part of the Young Enterprise Start Up Programme, which gives university students the opportunity to develop employability skills and prepare for the world of work, by setting up and running their own student company for up to 12 months.
At the Young Enterprise Regional Final, students showcased their businesses at stalls during the event and pitched their business to a panel of judges who questioned them on a range of aspects such as the growth potential and sustainability aspects, as well as considering the business idea as a whole.
Psychology students from the University of Liverpool (Holly Hadley, Caragh Gray, Rory Montgomerie and Paris Read) presented their business called Passing Presence, which is a bereavement service.
Following the presentations, the team from University of Liverpool were awarded the overall North West Prize.
They will join four runners up from the regional final at the Young Enterprise National Final, which will be held at the University of Hertfordshire on Wednesday 14 May.
At the National Final, one winner will be chosen to go through to the European Final in Athens.
Speaking about University of Liverpool's success at the Young Enterprise Regional Final, Department of Psychology lecturer Dr Caroline Hands - who leads the 399 Work Experience module - said: "We think this is an amazing business and the students have worked very hard to get to this point."
She added: "A huge thank you to Jen Foden James and Dominique Price who are from Careers [and Employability Service at the University of Liverpool] and help us run the module and support the teams with their presentations.
"[Psychology Employability and Student Placement Co-Ordinator] Elaine Fairhurst is our superstar and does everything for module administration and looks after the students. Elaine did the most to arrange and make sure the day ran smoothly."
We wish Holly Hadley, Caragh Gray, Rory Montgomerie and Paris Read all the best for their participation at the Young Enterprise National Final.
