Database Development and Contemporary Forms of Slavery

This session of the 'Mapping and Mobilising Slavery Heritage' workshop presents a part of the collaboration between the University of Ghana and University of Liverpool which is focusing on mapping material evidence for various forms of slavery in Ghana. The project is being led by Dr Wazi Apoh and Dr Benjamin Kankpeyeng from the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, University of Ghana (Legon), and as part of the Antislavery Knowledge Network, a Network Plus project funded by AHRC through the UK's Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). 

Mark Seyram Amenyo-Xa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology and Information Studies from the University of Ghana and a Master’s in Geography from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. I am employed as a Curator with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board and stationed at its Central and Western Regional office in the Cape Coast Castle. I am currently studying for my PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies in the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, University of Ghana. My research interest is mainly in the area of heritage commodification.
