The Politics Department is launching a new master’s in Public Administration and Policy (MPA) for entry in 2025.
The MPA seeks to equip you with advanced theoretical, methodological and practical tools to research public administration and policy. Through the study of carefully selected compulsory and optional modules, you will explore the relationship between theory, practice and contemporary developments in the regional, national and international sphere of public administration and policy.
The MPA offers a range of optional modules that enables you to focus on specific areas of interest in key areas of public administration and policy, including Conflict Resolution and Transformation, Contemporary Anti-Slavery, Forced Labour and Human Rights, The International Politics of the Middle East, Advanced Topics in Electoral Research and Navigating normative issues in Public Administration and Policy. You will also be required to complete a Political Science dissertation.
By the end of the course, you will be able to analyse and evaluate the contemporary challenges facing public administration and policy and formulate strategies to address them effectively.
The MPA is designed for students interested in a wide range of careers in government and administrative services (both nationally and internationally), NGOs and third-sector organisations, advocacy groups, journalism, and academia. In addition to developing analytical skills and empirical knowledge, you will also develop transferable employability skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration and teamwork, creativity, persuasion, adaptability and research skills.
The master’s in Public Administration and Policy has close links with the Heseltine Institute, the University’s city-facing public policy institute, which brings together academic expertise from across the University with policy-makers and practitioners to support the development of sustainable and inclusive cities and city regions. Within this setting, there are a number of required modules in each semester, and a wide range of optional modules to select from to facilitate specialisation/generalisation.
