The Department of Politics invite applications for a PhD studentship for UK students (maintenance+fees) in any aspect of democratisation, nationalism, and ethnicity studies broadly understood.

*** DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 29 MAY 2023***

We particularly welcome applications relating to Eastern and Central Europe or comparative studies with other regions. The studentship starts from October 2023 (start date negotiable).

This PhD studentship is funded by the Bowes Chair endowment held by  Professor Erika Harris and is intended for individuals of outstanding potential as future scholars and academic researchers, who wish to pursue a PhD degree at Liverpool. The criteria against which all applications will be evaluated, are the standard application criteria as well as research excellence of the proposed project and the existing academic achievements of each candidate. Applicants should have a good first degree and hold (or be about to complete) a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.

The studentship is for 3 years and covers maintenance of £ 17, 667.96 (subject to an inflationary increase in each year) and fees for UK students.

The department is also home to the Europe and the World Centre that focuses on the diverse ways in which Europe is being refashioned through internal developments and interactions with the world outside.

We are particularly proud of the achievements of our postgraduate research students and appreciate their contribution to our dynamic research environment and our friendly department.
