The department of Politics invite applications for Graduate Teaching Fellowships (starting October 2018).

The University of Liverpool is one of Britain’s leading research institutions with an annual turnover of £400 million, including £140 million for research. Renowned for its cutting edge research, the University is ranked in the top 1% of higher education institutions worldwide. The Department of Politics  − where this Graduate Teaching Fellowship is located − produces research of international excellence in both British and International Politics.

Our research aims to make a difference to the world, by mapping political and societal development, informing political opinion and shaping policy decisions locally, nationally and internationally. We engage in a wide range of dissemination and engagement activities to ensure the impact  of  our  work  is  maximised  both  within  academia  and  beyond. In  the  2014 Research  Excellence Framework,  50%  of  our research   impact  was  judged  internationally  outstanding.

Politics at Liverpool is a vastly expanding department and forms 1 of 5 departments in the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures (HLC) which was formed in 2010 and is one of the largest and most diverse Schools in the University. The department is also home to the Europe and the World Centre (EWC), this centre focuses on the diverse ways in which Europe is being refashioned through internal developments and interactions with the world outside. Its activities aim to enhance understanding of this complex process by providing research-based analysis of what is happening both at political/governmental and societal levels.

We are particularly proud of the achievements of our postgraduate research students and appreciate their contribution to our dynamic research environment and our friendly department.

We invite applications for Graduate Teaching Fellowships (starting October 2018) in any aspect of nationalism and ethnicity studies generally, and we particularly welcome applications relating to East Central Europe.
These Fellowships are intended for individuals of outstanding potential as future scholars and academic researchers, who wish to pursue a PhD degree at Liverpool while also gaining valuable teaching experience in a University environment. Please note that no previous teaching experience is required. The only criteria against which all applications from eligible candidates will be evaluated, are the research excellence of the proposed project (to be supervised by Professor Erika Harris), and the existing academic achievements of each candidate.

Graduate Teaching Fellows (GTFs) will be registered for the degree of PhD on a part-time basis for the first 2 years of their study. This will provide GTFs with adequate time to develop their thesis, while obtaining academic teaching experience. For the 3rd and 4th year of their studies GTFs will be registered as full time research students and will not undertake teaching duties.
Funding will be provided for 4 years. GTFs will have their fees (set at Home/EU rate) waived throughout the 4 years of their PhD. In addition, they will be paid a maintenance stipend (see details below).
