Dominic Jones
Dominic Jones graduated in 2022 and now works as an Economic Policy Development Officer at Barnsley Council.
I studied at the University of Liverpool between 2019 and 2022 and graduated with a first in Politics (BA Hons). I took several particularly enjoyable and informative modules such as Political Communication with Andrew Crines, UK General Elections and Referendums since 1945 with Dr Stuart Wilks-Heeg and Contemporary Parliamentary Studies with Dr Andrew Russell, and two placement modules.
In the ‘Politics in Action’ module, I worked in the Employment and Skills team at the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority which provided me with a deep insight into local and regional Government. I also participated in the Parliamentary placement scheme module, organised by Dr Kevin Hickson, through an internship with Bill Esterson MP, Shadow Minister for Business and Industry at the time, working in Westminster. From there, I worked in the constituency office in Merseyside over the Summer before starting as a Corporate Policy Officer at the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, having just completed a dissertation on metro mayors and combined authorities in the North of England.
I currently work as an Economic Policy Development Officer at Barnsley Council, where I analyse policies, maintain an economic evidence base, and support funding applications and business case development. My studies in Politics at the University of Liverpool equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge that I apply daily in my work.
