Liverpool Condensed Matter Work Highlighted in Papers, Conference
Ahowd Alfahad, a third-year PhD student in CMP, was awarded the Best Oral Presentation Award at the annual conference of the European Integrated Centre for the Development of Metallic Alloys & Compounds (ECMetAC), held in Slovenia from 27th to 29th November. Ahowd presented her work on 'Surface Structure of Intermetallic Compounds.' Liam Chandler, another third-year PhD student, also gave a talk on 'Magnetic Properties of Quasiperiodic Artificial Spin-Ice Tilings Fabricated with Nanolithography.' Following the annual conference, Prof. Ronan McGrath and Dr. Hem Raj Sharma attended the Science Board meeting and General Assembly. Prof. McGrath serves as the Secretary-General of ECMetAC, and Dr. Sharma is the spokesperson for the ECMetAC Research and Activity Domain on the Atomic Scale Surfaces and Functional Coatings, Thin Films, and Interfaces (ASCI), respectively. The conference wrapped up a good week for the McGrath and Sharma groups, who also had two publications in the Israel Journal of Chemistry [1, 2].
