Research Overview

Much of my published research concerns the philosophical dimensions of Guy Debord’s theory of ‘spectacular’ society. I have tried to develop a reconstruction of the largely unexplored philosophical dimensions of Debord’s work that foregrounds its roots in French Hegelianism and Hegelian Marxism. My current work attempts to develop and build upon two aspects of the material that I drew from Debord’s theory. The first concerns his broadly Hegelian vision of shared social life, and of its modern pathologies; the second concerns the dimensions of Debord’s work that treat everyday experience and the passage of time as aesthetic issues.
