Hans Jonas (1903-1993) was a contemporary innovator of the German philosophical tradition. Through his critique of Husserlian and Heideggerian phenomenology, Jonas attempted to move modern German philosophy away from the tradition of idealism towards a naturalistic philosophy of life. My research will provide a systematic and critical interpretation of Hans Jonas’ philosophy of life, pointing that Jonas’ monistic philosophy of life aims to overcome modern nihilism and provide the metaphysical foundation for his whole philosophical system.
