The Mystery of Consciousness – Fifteen Photographs
Earlier this year, over 300 people purchased tickets for a special event – titled ‘The Mystery of Consciousness’ – at the Tung Auditorium, the University’s newly opened state-of-the-art concert hall.
The Mystery of Consciousness featured hosts – Jack Symes and Oliver Marley – in conversation with some of philosophy’s most prominent thinkers: Anil Seth, Laura Gow, Philip Goff, and the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams.
The event was organised by the team behind ‘The Panpsycast’, in association with the University of Liverpool’s Department of Philosophy and Premier Christian Radio. If you missed the event, footage has been made available on Premier Christian Radio’s YouTube channel.
With music from the University’s very own Q Quartet and opportunities to meet the panellists, the event received generous praise from attendees.
It was really great to attend the debate on #MysteryofConsciousness @TungAuditorium last night. As a newbie to Philosophical debate into the conscious mind I was fascinated by what @Philip_Goff @anilkseth @_JackSymes, Roman Williams & Laura Gow had to say both on and off stage😁 pic.twitter.com/MVr4stwS6t

It was a really fun and interesting event, and great to be able to discuss such a thought-provoking topic with Anil, Philip and Rowan. I think there was just the right amount of agreement and disagreement between us! The questions from the audience were excellent, and it was lovely to be able to chat to people during the interval and after the event. I suspect that even if we do arrive at an answer which everyone agrees on, there will always be an air of mystery surrounding the question of how consciousness fits in to the physical world.
With thanks to The Panpsycast team, we are delighted to share fifteen (exclusive) photographs from the event – taken by the event’s photographer and University of Liverpool alumni, Casey Logue.
