ALBA Synchrotron Light Facility

Contact: Francis Perez

‌ALBA is a third generation Synchrotron Light Facility. It has been constructed and it is operated by the CELLS consortium and is co-financed by the Catalan and Spanish governments. It is located in Cerdanyola del Vallès near Barcelona, Spain. It is currently under commissioning and it is expected to have a stable electron beam in the storage ring by spring 2011 and synchrotron radiation from the insertion devices by autumn 2011.

The facility is expected to be fully operational with users by 2012. At the moment, the ALBA ‌ staff consists of 160 dedicated engineers, scientists, technicians and support staff. The commissioning and early operation phase of the facility is a particularly well suited phase for training early stage researchers in all aspects of the machine and is also a phase when continuous machine optimization will be very important.
