2nd oPAC School on Complementary Skills
The week-long School provided complementary skills training for all oPAC Fellows. The School was aimed at help the fellows to develop their competencies and build links across the network and provided the oPAC early stage researchers with the non-technical skills that will be invaluable for their future careers whether that be in academia or industry. Training was based around the following topics:
• Presentation skills
• Scientific writing
• Career experiences in industry and academia
• Project management
• Team working to develop an outreach project
The School took place on 3rd – 7th June 2013 at the University of Liverpool, UK.
An article published earlier in the year in Liverpool University's Learning & Teaching newsletter describes the development of this training out of the DITANET project and subsequent wider adoption in the UK. This approach has also been presented at this year’s HEA STEM: Annual Learning and Teaching Conference 2013 at the University of Birmingham in the UK.
