Nordic walking

Nordic walking is much more than walking with poles! Join us for a social way to spend time in nature, burn calories, tone the body, improve fitness, while going easy on your joints.

Whether you're new to Nordic walking or have previous experience, we offer a range of 4-week Nordic walking classes, so there's options for all ability levels.

If you're aged 16 or above, choose a level from the options below for further information about what you'll learn, pricing, dates and times, and how to book your place. 

Beginners

Our beginners sessions are great fun, friendly and tailored to your individual needs.

The sessions are suitable for complete beginners or those with a little experience. Don't worry about your fitness level, you can take it at your own pace. but you must be able to walk unaided and swing your arms freely.

As you’re outdoors, you’ll feel the powerful and calming effects of being in nature, excellent therapy for the mind.

What you'll learn

In this beginner's class, you'll learn the principles of Nordic walking, including proper body posture and how to engage your core muscles for a full-body workout. Our aim is to make your transition into this enjoyable outdoor activity as smooth as possible.

Please bring with you a comfortable pair of running shoes with a good thread or lightweight walking shoes. If the weather looks wet please bring waterproofs. Wrap up and wear gloves, hat and a couple of thin layers when it’s cold to start that you can easily remove as you warm up walking. Nordic walking poles are provided.

Classes take place across four weekly sessions, from 10.30am-12pm, on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 7 - Tuesday 28 January 2025
  • Tuesday 4 - Tuesday 25 February 2025
  • Tuesday 4 - Tuesday 25 March 2025.

You are welcome to keep attending our four-week blocks of Beginners' classes until you feel ready to move on to Improvers.

Cost

Each four-week block costs £40 for members, £49 for non-members.

Improvers

Our improver classes are designed to make you feel healthier, fitter, and happier and are ideal for anyone who has completed our beginners course.

To join these sessions, you should have completed our beginners course or have some experience of Nordic walking.

What you'll learn

We'll focus on refining your Nordic walking skills whilst gently enhancing your endurance. We make sure you work at a level to help you reach your specific fitness and technique goals.

Please bring with you a comfortable pair of running shoes with a good tread or lightweight walking shoes. If the weather looks wet please bring waterproofs. Wrap up and wear gloves, hat and a couple of thin layers when it’s cold to start that you can easily remove as you warm up walking. Nordic walking poles are provided.

Classes take place across four weekly sessions, from 1pm-2.30pm, on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 8 January -Wednesday 29 January 2025
  • Wednesday 5 February - Wednesday 26 February 2025
  • Wednesday 5 March- Wednesday 26 March 2025.

You are welcome to keep attending our four-week blocks of Improvers' classes until you feel ready to move on to Intermediate.

Intermediate

In the intermediate level, you can expect a more intense workout as we increase the pace and introduce longer distances. We'll also help you refine your form in our invigorating classes that will challenge you while keeping the fun and camaraderie of Nordic walking alive.

To join these sessions, you should have completed our improvers course or have experience of Nordic walking and be capable of walking continuously for at least an hour at a moderate pace.

What you'll learn

These classes are designed for those who are eager to take their Nordic walking to the next level and experience even greater health benefits.

Please bring with you a comfortable pair of running shoes with a good thread or lightweight walking shoes. If the weather looks wet please bring waterproofs. Wrap up and wear gloves, hat and a couple of thin layers when it’s cold to start that you can easily remove as you warm up walking. Nordic walking poles are provided.

  • Tuesday 7 - Tuesday 28 January 2025
  • Tuesday 4 February - Tuesday 25 February 2025

Advanced

In our advanced classes, you'll engage in more rigorous sessions, where we'll fine-tune your Nordic walking to perfection.

To join these sessions, it's essential that you've regularly attended our intermediate course or alternatively have good levels of fitness with previous experience of Nordic walking.

What you'll learn

We'll elevate your fitness with longer walks, through speed training, hill reps, strength, and conditioning exercises. You will be working towards establishing a perfect, flowing technique, while consistently elevating fitness levels and of course enjoying the sights and sounds of the outdoors.

Some poles can be provided, but at this level it is assumed that you will already have your own Nordic walking poles. Please bring with you a comfortable pair of running shoes with a good thread or lightweight walking shoes. If the weather looks wet please bring waterproofs.

Classes take place across four weekly sessions, from 10.30am-12pm, on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 8 January - Wednesday 29 January 2025
