Biography
My name is Philip Taylor. My alma mater is the University of Huddersfield. I joined in 2016 to study for my BMus and subsequently stayed on for my MMus. My journey in academia started with the intention to compose for film and video game music, but after joining John Bryan’s Early Music Ensemble in my first year, I found myself on a path that led inexorably to Early Music. In September of 2022, I joined the University of Liverpool to study for my PhD in Music, specialising in Medieval Musicology. My research examines the practitioners of early music in the last 100 years or so, and considers how the performance of medieval music as sound has changed since the earliest recordings were made.
Teaching and learning: I have not yet undertaken any teaching at the university of Liverpool.
