Audiences for Classical Music
Audiences for Classical Music is an AHRC-funded research project exploring how and why people attend classical music concerts. With classical music organisations around the UK working hard to attract new audiences, it’s more important than ever to understand the appeals and the challenges of engaging with live classical music.
This fellowship will see Dr Sarah Price spend two years consolidating existing literature on classical music audiences and conducting studies into new audience populations. In the first phase, Sarah will bring together existing research on classical music audiences in a short monograph, making it easier to navigate for both arts professionals and academics. In the second phase, three short new studies will be conducted into how audiences engage with: amateur classical music performances, classical music on streaming platforms such as Spotify, and classical music performances in unusual and alternative venues.
