The Department of Music at the University of Liverpool has agreed a partnership with the School of Arts at Sun Yat-Sen University, in Guangzhou, China. Professor Lisa Colton and Dr Lee Tsang travelled to China earlier this year to visit Sun Yat-Sen, meeting Dr Zhe Zhang, Party secretary of School of Arts, Vice-Dean Professor Pengpeng Feng, Professor Yuan Yuan (Head of the Orchestral Music Department), Dr Siyuan Li (Head of Piano Department), other staff and current students.

This week, a celebratory medal from Sun-Yat Sen was formally received by Professor Peter Buse, Dean of the School of Arts at Liverpool, in recognition of the new partnership. Under the terms of the agreement between the two universities, students from Sun Yat-Sen are encouraged to progress to a Master’s qualification at Liverpool, such as the MMus Music Performance and Education, the MA Music Management, or the MA Music Industry Studies.

While in China, Lisa and Lee also met Liverpool alumni in Guangzhou and Beijing who are now working in a range of careers in the Chinese Music industry.
