School of Music’s Multiple Book Launch Party
The staff in the music department have been busy recently and have published eight books within two years. The multiple book launch extravaganza at Parr St Studios on the 6th June celebrated the release of texts by Prof Anahid Kassabian, Dr Hae-Kyung Um, Dr Freya Jarman, Dr Mike Jones, Dr Holly Rogers and Dr Kenneth Smith. DJ’ing Dr Rob Strachan provided dance-floor entertainment to supplement the consumption of wine following a warm toast from our new head of department, Prof Michael Spitzer. Michael’s toast reminded us, through (semi-)humorous anecdotal conversation between himself and his Penny-Lane Barber, that academic books, though often misunderstood by the general public, are the life-blood of the academic community - ‘These books will find readers across the world, and these readers will find Liverpool'.
The book titles are listed below and can be found in all good bookshops:
Queer Voices: Technologies, Vocalities, and the Musical Flaw by Dr Freya Jarman
The Music Industries: from conception to consumption Dr Mike Jones
Skryabin, Philosophy, and the Music of Desire by Dr Kenneth Smith
Sounding the Gallery: Video and the Rise of Art-Music by Dr Holly Rogers
Ubiquitous Listening: Affect, Attention, and Distributed Subjectivity by Professor Anahid Kassabian and Ubiquitous Musics: The Everyday Sounds That We don’t Always Notice by Professor Anahid Kassabian, Martha García Quiñones and Elena Boschi
