Researchers, innovators and funders from across the UK gathered in Liverpool recently for the second annual UK Microbiome One Health conference.

The two-day event was organised by the University of Liverpool’s Microbiome Innovation Centre and showcased the latest in microbiome research and innovation and provided a platform for collaboration.

The Microbiome One Health Conference is one of the few events that addresses the shared innovation challenges and opportunities across human, animal, plant, soil and environmental microbiome sectors.

170 delegates from across academia, industry, government and public sector were in attendance and heard from 40 speakers across 12 themed sessions.

In a programme that delegates praised for its quality and diversity, topics included microbiome data sciences, a ‘Creating Connections’ session in which seven start-ups presented their microbiome innovations and a panel discussion highlighting the support for microbiome innovation across Liverpool City Region.

Professor Jo Fothergill, Director of the Microbiome Innovation Centre said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the UK microbiome community to Liverpool and to hear about some of the fantastic microbiome research taking place across academia, industry and the public sector. This is an exciting time for microbiome innovation in the UK and the MIC is delighted to be playing its role in advancing the sector”

Next year’s conference will be hosted by the Oxford Centre for Microbiome Studies, date to be confirmed.
