Partners
The combination of four universities and four major pharma partners provides a unique, powerfully synergistic environment for fellows, allowing integration of expertise and technologies across academic and industry partners.
Industry partners
The MRC Medicines Development Fellowship is collaborating with four pharmaceutical companies - GSK, AstraZeneca, Hammersmith Medicines Research and Optum.
By bringing academic and industry partners together, we are building capacity for medicines development and enhancing inward investment in the UK. Fellows enjoy access to technologies, new compounds in development, and activities that would not otherwise be available to academic researchers.
In keeping with the 'research without walls' motif, Fellows can consult freely and creatively with our industry partners, in ways that suit their research interests and needs.
Clinical Research Training Fellows will spend between three and twelve months working in industry settings to gain a true breadth of experience. Clinician Scientist Fellows will spend at least 50% of their time working directly with their industry partner.
University partners
The programme is led by the University of Liverpool, in partnership with the University of Manchester, Queen Mary University of London, and the University of Glasgow.
This provides breadth as well as depth in our focus areas and increases the choice available to potential candidates. The four Universities are located in areas of high deprivation and inequalities and this scheme supports place-based research to address local health challenges.
Our institutions embody positive and inclusive research cultures, promoting capacity building and the principles of equity, integrity, reproducibility, collaboration and sustainability. Research culture is a priority for continued excellence in each of our strategic plans, supported by investment in implementing best-practice and developing effective approaches to enhance research environment.
