What's it really like to be a student doctor at Liverpool School of Medicine? The School prides itself on the wide range of opportunities it provides to its undergraduates - helping shape them into confident, caring and compassionate doctors of the future.

Student societies play a crucial and special role in your student experience. There are hundreds of them in operation via Liverpool Guild of Students, and over 70 of these are run by student doctors. Take a look at our Medical Societies webpage (link) to browse through those on offer. You'll get the chance to meet and interact with these student groups in person as part of your Welcome activities. 

Unlock exclusive benefits open to student doctors

As a student doctor you have access to a number of different organisations that can provide you with a range of benefits including discounts on medical textbooks, access to learning resources and support.

The Medical Protection Society (MPS) offers free student membership. MPS provides healthcare professionals with professional protection and support with any medicolegal issues that may arise throughout your whole career. As a student member, you will also have discounts on a range of medical books, advice from doctors, and access to podcasts and online learning materials. 

  • Register for free on the MPS website (link) and you’ll be automatically entered into a prize draw where you could win £200. See the MPS Student Membership flyer (PDF).

The Medical Defence Union (MDU) offers support to medical professionals, including student doctors. Student membership is free and you'll get an Oxford Medical Dictionary on sign up, as well as access to revision resources, textbook discounts, sponsorship opportunities and confidential medico-legal advice.

The British Medical Association (BMA) is an independent trade union and professional association that provides essential support as you progress through your studies and qualify as a doctor.

  • Membership is free for your first year of medical school and includes access to individual advice, wellbeing support, online learning resources and more. Learn more and join on the BMA website (link).
